The setup wizard allows you to make a disk. Take that disk to the other computers and click on the disk in My computer to launch.

If you are using a router, then both PCs are probably already almost networked as they share a similar IP address. What you need to do is make sure File and Print Sharing on XP. Just go into your control panel and open your Network Connections. Right-click your connection and select Properties. Make sure File and Print Sharing is checked.

Next, share a folder, such as My Documents. Just right-click it and select Sharing.

Last, set the workgroup to the same on both computers. Right-click My Computer, Properties and look under the Computer Name tab. From within here, you can set the Network ID (workgroup). Both might already be set to Workgroup, which is fine if you want to use that.

Do the same on the Windows 7 machine. That's pretty much it. Join our forums for more detailed help.

I recently purchased a laptop that runs Windows 7. My desktop runs XP. I am trying to network them. I used the Network Wizard to setup the desktop and that went fine. I then took my Windows XP disk to my laptop and followed the setup. The following is the error message:

There was a problem starting C:\Windows\System32\hnetwiz.dll. The speceified module could not be found.

After doing some research I found that the Network Wizard only works for all other operating systems excluding Vista and 7. So how do you network? Do I have to upgrade to Windows 7 on my desktop?

Thanks

Try system restore (Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system recovery). Go back to a date before you had problems, if you can. Next, download and run Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. Run a scan. Next, run disk cleanup and defrag the drive.

I'm having a difficulty trying to repair my local area connection since I had it on for almost 2 years to make my computer work smoothly with my Sorenson Videophone 200. Now it's no longer working due to an error, is there a way to bring back the connection since I tried to check the status and repair it, my computer won't do that. What should I do since I had my computer repaired 3 years ago, my computer is not like it was before, slow, needs more virtual memory. It takes too long to load the internet. Let me know what should I do before I take it to the computer repair shop.
