Try setting your router as the default. Right-click the wireless Icon by the clock and set your network as the preferred. Sound like the signal might be weak and your computer is bouncing around to the better signal. Also, maybe try relocating your router to get a better signal.

I have a HP Laptop. We have a wireless router in the house, which I can connect to, however, there is NO internet access. I can connect to neighbors routers and get internet just fine. We have tried everything (ip config, rebooting, restarting, unplugging router & modem, etc.) Nothing seems to help. Every once in a while I'll be connected to someone else's router, then look down and I'm connected to ours and internet is fine. We have no clue what to do now. Should we replace the router?

What operating system?

I would reboot the router first. Just power it down and after a few minutes power it back up. Restart the laptop. If that doesn't work, you might have to go into the network settings in the control pad and look for the wireless adapter. Under properties, try changing the setting to AES.

The update is killing it so reinstalling the OS might not help. Hmmmm. Maybe obtain a copy of the wifi driver from the manufacturer and after the update breakes it, go into the control panel and see if you can update the driver to the one you downloaded.

What Operating System?

Sometimes removing malware will kill your Internet connection. Try a system restore: Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

Go back to a date before the problems started.
