Question Title Compaq Computer Troubleshooting

Compaq Computer Troubleshooting

These are some typical troubleshooting techniques for Compaq computers. We have chosen some generic problems and resolutions for Compaq computers that will apply to most models, but since not all models are the same, these diagnostics may not apply to your system.

The Computer Will Not Turn On
If the computer had been running and suddenly shuts down, let the PC sit for an hour and then try booting it. Heat can sometimes cause a PC to shut down and not restart until it has cooled. If the PC still does not start, the power supply or motherboard might have failed.

Computer Date and Time Are Wrong
Try changing the time by clicking the clock in the lower right corner of the screen. If the time stays after you reboot, then you’re fine. If it loses time again, it’s possible the CMOS battery on the motherboard needs to be replaced.

Performance is Poor
There are several reasons for this. Heat can cause a CPU to become sluggish. Make sure the computer is in a well-ventilated area and that all fans are spinning fast. Spyware and Viruses can also cause a system to slow down. Be sure to run an up to date Spyware and Antivirus program.

Keyboard Lights Are Flashing

If the Caps Lock LED is flashing, this could indicate there is a problem with the graphics controller.

If the Num Lock LED is flashing, it could mean the system memory is bad or not present.

If the Scroll Lock LED is flashing, it could mean there is a problem with the motherboard. This will generally result in the replacement of the board.
