Question Title Backup Outlook Express Files

Outlook Express Download

You can save your email messages, setting and address book in Outlook express a couple of different ways.  There is a manual way to download these files, as well as numerous programs that can do this for you in a few simple clicks.  Backing up Email settings and the Address Book is something people do not normally think about until it's too late and their system fails and they lose everything.  This tutorial will explain how to download these email settings.

Download files from Outlook Express

You'll want to open Outlook Express.  Next, you'll click  Tools, then Options, then Maintenance, then look for the button that says "Store Folder."  This is the folder in Windows where all of these OE files are stored.  You will navigate to this folder and copy everything.  The easiest way is to just copy that address, then go to START>RUN and paste the address in the box and hit OK.  It will take you directly to that folder.

In the new PC, you will also navigate to this folder and overwrite the new files with the ones you copied from the other hard drive.  That's it.  While it's a lot of navigating around, the process is pretty straight-forward.

Copy the Address Book in Outlook Express

The process for copying and transferring the Address Book in OE is almost the same as the folders and settings above.  Open Outlook Express, then go to Tools, the Address Book.  Click Help, then About Address Book.  You will want to copy the location of the Address Book with the exception of the ending \name.wab.

Example:
C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Me.wab you would only copy C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\

Next, just go to START>Run and paste that in and hit OK.  The address book files are located here.  You'll want to copy over to the new PC the address book located in this folder.

Outlook Express Backup Email program

We highly recommend this Email Backup program.  In a couple of easy clicks, you can have your files backed-up and transferred.
