Question Title Different Windows Vista Versions

Windows Vista Versions

If you thought Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional was confusing, Windows Vista has further narrowed down your choices for an Operating system. While the core of the OS will be the same in all versions of Vista, the difference in features essentially split the OS into either a Home or Business Operating System—with upgrades to Home being the Premium and the upgrade to Business being the Enterprise edition. Windows Vista Ultimate gives you the best of home and business versions. So which is right for you?

Windows Vista Home Basic

This version of Windows will be for users who only use their PC for common tasks, such as surfing the Web, composing Emails and working on documents. The benefit of upgrading or buying a new PC with Windows Vista installed will be better security and a new, efficient interface.

Windows Vista Home Premium

The Premium version will likely be the common Operating System purchased by people moving from XP. Premium has all of the features of Basic, but comes with the flashy new interface Windows Aero™ . This version of Windows focuses on digital entertainment. As a media PC, you'll be able to Watch movies, listen to music and even connect and share content with your Xbox 360.

Windows Vista Business

The Business version of Windows will help companies implement user policies easier with improved user accounts features. It will also help prevent malicious attacks with the built-in Maleware protection and backup features to help reduce downtime and increase PC reliability. It also includes the Windows Aero™ interface, which helps users search for files on their PCs with ease.

Windows Vista Enterprise

The Enterprise edition of Vista is designed more for organizations that have complex IT Infrastructures. It is designed to provide greater degrees of data protection using hardware-based encryption. It will only be available for customers who have PCs covered by the Microsoft Software Assurance or a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement.

Windows Vista Ultimate

For the power users, the Ultimate Edition is for those who want their PCs for both work and entertainment. It provides all of the features of Business and Premium, while making it easier to connect remotely to your office. While you'll pay between $259.00 and $399.00 for this version, it will be the version people on the go will likely gravitate to because it has everything you would want or need for your computer.

So whatever version of Windows you decide you'll need, Vista will help you make the decision by offering a great variety for your needs and budget. The even better news is each version will be upgradeable using the Windows Anytime Upgrade utility.

The Popular Choice

While Windows will offer the following different versions, you will likely notice the major manufacturers will load Windows Permium Vista by default. This isn't fact, it's our opinion based on the description of the options. The Basic version of home may be offered on low-end models, but the mid to upper price models will be purchased by people who want and need the digital media and Windows Aero™ options the Premium version offers.
