Glossary is usually defined as an alphabetical list of technical terms in some specialized field of knowledge. .gif a file extension developed by CompuServe and used for images. AC Adapter An external power supply that converts 110V electric to a low voltage DC power to operate such components as a laptop or a computer. Acrobat Reader A program by Adobe that displays .PDF files. Active Desktop A feature in Windows that allows users to view HTML directly from their Windows desktop. Actuator A HDD mechanism that moved the read / write heads to the desired locale on the disk. Address Bar The portion of the browser that allows you to type in a website URL or folder location, typically http://www.websitename.com. Antivirus A computer program that scans memory and hard drives and Email for the purpose of blocking and eliminating computer viruses. Attenuation Attenuation is the degradation of signal strength as it travels across a network medium. Capacitor A component on a circuit board that provides a known amount of capacitance. Can be group in clusters and closely resemble a tiny soda can. Buldging capacitors are often a sign of a bad motherboard. CAT 5 Cable A networking cable that contains four pairs of twisted wires with RJ45 connectors on either end. |
