I want to voice chat with techs and computer users at PCTechBytes. How?
PCTechBytes uses Skype to chat with our computing friends. We call it Voice-chat Saturdays, where we will be able to talk in real-time with up to 100 people using the free voice chat software called Skype. If you want to participate, you'll need to download Skype and look for Dave.Bytes online Saturday nights. We'll list more information on our message board Saturdays.
What do I need besides Skype to talk with PCTechBytes members?
Sign up for a membership at PCTechBytes and you can put your Skype username in your profile. Aside from that, you will need a headset with a microphone attached. This is the preferred method, as it improves quality and reduces feedback. Typical headsets are around $15 at your local electronics shop.
What time is voice chat on Saturday?
Most of our techs are on the eastern United States, (or -5GMT). So we plan on being live around 9PM on Saturdays EST. We'll be sure to put a notice on the message boards when chat is live. We will expand the days and times when we feel there is a need to do so.
I don't have a headset or a microphone. Can I still participate?
Sure, there is a feature in Skype to type instead of speak. But you'll still need a Skype account so be sure to signup.
What exactly is this about?
PCtechBytes feels it is sometimes necessary for people to get immediate help, and being able to talk to experienced computer users around the world in real-time is a great way to do this. Or we can just talk about Britney Spears, Anne Nicole Smith or Big Foot. This is a group of users that want to have fun and solve problems together.
I need more information on the Skype service. Where can I find it?
If you're not sure how to download and install Skype, visit their website here to find out more information about their free service.
