While trying to install Java 7 Update 17 on Java.com, I got the following message:
"Java 7 Update 17
The function you want to use is on a non-available network. Click on OK to try it again, or type in the space below another path to a folder that has the installation pack jre 1.7.0_07-c.msi
C:\Documents and Settings\Eigenaar\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.7.0_07\"
I browsed for other location for jre1.7.0_07 but to no avail.
I used search function to find jre1.7.0_07, but it’s not found anywhere.
The reason is probably that I mistakenly removed Jre7 folder while updating.
I still have Java 7 Update 11 in the software list of Control Panel.
I followed all installation instructions on Java site to the point; but all tries ended with the message stated in the begin of my post.
I managed to install Java 6 and ran the update function in javacpl.exe as suggested by roadrage in this thread:http://www.pctechbyt...7-Warning/page2, but I saw no update action going on. In the meantime I’ve removed Java 6 folder when I was applying Cnet Link, mentioned below.
After installing Java 6 and restarting my browser a window appear on my desktop requesting installation of Java Console 6.0.43; so I agreed and now I have it as extension on my Firefox.
In the course of trouble shooting I had to install Java Console 6.0.26. For security reasons I’ve disabled both Consoles on my browser.
I lost my network connection for a couple of hours after deleting Java 7 Update 11 from the Add/ Remove Software List, as pre condition to install Update 17 that failed. I got the network connection working again after doing a system restore that installed the Java 7 Update 11 back. However the network connection broke again so I went to my last available restore point and its still working till now…
I searched on the web and came up with some results that I saved and tried without success. One of them is this link: http://forums.cnet.c...ot-update-java/. It couldn’t remove Java 7 Update 11 from Software list in Add/ Remove Software, with the same error message mentioned in the beginning of my post, plus that I must first install Java 7 in order for it to be removed. Also as was suggested in this link Java doesn’t show up in when I open RevoUninstaller.
I also tried Recuva with no success.
This link though:http://www.oracle.co...oad-140472.html, you might probably better understand it than me; so please let me know if it’s of any use.
I still have the Original OS-cd, if it can be used for this issue. I opened it and searched for files with jre and msi on it. There are so many but I couldn’t figure what to use; also I want to be carful not installing files in the wild that could hamper my system.
You might find my post too long, sorry for that! My intention is to provide you with details that might help with solving this problem.
OS XP Home Edition, version 2002, SP3
Firewall: Private Firewall
Computer: Dell Laptop Inspiron 1150
CPU: Intel 2.80 GHz
RAM: 768 MB
Router: Xperia Box
How can I get the deleted jre7 folder installed back to Program Files, so I can upgrade to the latest Update 17 and have secure java on my laptop, and not worrying about security issues or broken network connections?
Thanks in advance!
