What make a game runs smoothly ??

So far as i know that to have a game run smoothly (any games, specially offline games with great graphics etc , like Skyrim , Battlefield3 etc) most important are

    (correct me if im wrong)

    Processor
    Graphic Card
    RAM

What i know is well , Graphic Card process the graphics and all , while RAM usually does the loading etc , what does the Processor part does actually ?

Is there any other important parts that will make a game run smoothly and free of lag ?

(Of course dont on tons of other applications when playing game thats logic and common sense, also the usual answer ppl love to give " Make sure ur COM are up to the requirements " )

    Wrong order.

    GPU
    Processor
    RAM

The GPU does 90% of the heavy lifting in gaming. A good quality power supply is a must for the vid card. That's why I was harping at you so much in your other threads. The cpu and system RAM only play small parts in gaming.

So the processor do come in when playing a game ? but what does the processor actuaully does ? Its 1 of the component i have the least info / knowledge about

My RAM is fine for now but i can still upgrade it , i only recently found out i actually have 4X RAM slots but this is an old motherboard only uses DDR2 , so max speed is only 800MHZ

    I have 4GB now currently

The cpu handles the user's input into the game. Such as making settings changes and telling the game what the character wants to do. Like walking or running. Not very intensive tasks huh?

O i c...whats the speed now this days for processors ? Mine is quite low i find it only 2.3 Ghz i recall , nowadays they go up to 3.0 Ghz ? If i do change my com in the feature i planning to buy the AMD either 2.8 or 3.0 , well the max speed they sell is 3.0 if not mistaken , i looking at the Phenom II , not the FX-8

But 3.0 its just slight tiny more expensive than the 2.8

    Intel comparison chart-
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...select=desktop

    AMD chart-
    http://www.amd.com/us/products/deskt...rocessors.aspx

Several Intel and AMD cpus are well over 3 GHz. Some of the i5 and i7 series have been overclocked to 4.5-4.8 GHz and stable.
I don't follow AMD products but I would guess some of their products have had similar results.

1 thing about processors , like if a FX-8 vs a Phenom II or maybe like I5 vs a I7 , the I5 / Phenom II is 3.0 Ghz , while the FX-8 / I7 is only maybe 2.8 or lower if possible , does that actually automatically makes the Phenom II / I5 faster or the FX-8 / I7 is still faster because it has more cores ?

No because your comparing apples to oranges. Intel and AMD use different architectures to make their cpus run. Second, Intel is on it's second generation of the i series. You would have to get more specific as to get a true comparison. I suggest that you
check out tom'shardware.com again. They have charts where the more popular chips have been benchmarked. It should at least
give you a better idea as to how they perform side by side.
