have to wait 10 minutes to reboot

a few weeks ago my laptop started acting up. when i shut down or rebooted i would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes before it would start up again. when i tried it would just show a blank screen and do nothing. someone in another forum said it was a virus. i did a low level format on the drive and went to re install the restore software and i cannot because it is still doing this. it is a laptop hp pavillion dv73165dx. went and bought this new one the g2 and i do not like it. i am hoping that i can fix my old one.

It might be that it has to cooling down before it reboots. Try cleaning it as well as possible, removing covers and using compressed air to blow out dust, then see if you can complete the re-installation. Using a cooling tray in a well vented are might help too.

There is a big possibility that your startup items is full of unwanted items. Try using "startup" cleaner of ccleaner.

This is a hardware issue jaydeee, startup item will not cause a pc to shut down or fail to boot.
