Is it bad to run AVG antivirus when you have Microsoft Security Essentials?

I heard that it was bad to have more than one antivirus software. I have Microsoft Security Essentials and want to download AVG to see if it works better. Will the two software programs conflict? Thanks in advance for your help.

Normally is is not reccommended to have more than one anti-virsus program because they conflict causing problems. All the techs here speak against doing this.

From my experience, you will be hard pressed to find a less intrusive, less interrupting, better definitioned virus scanner out there. And it is in real time. Would recommend MSE and Malwarebytes to cover the malware side.

The problem is that both MSE and AVG are "real time" scanners. That's where the conflict usually comes in. If you wish to try AVG, uninstall MSE first.

I have MSE installed, but not running, along with Avast. About once a week or so I'll turn Avast off and run a scan with MSE. I haven't had any problems but I wouldn't recommend anyone else try it. They say God protects the ignorant and idiot so I'm getting by with more help than most people.

You better stick with Microsoft Security Essentials(MSE) because AVG gives false positive sometimes and MSE is better indeed. If you want to run another anti-virus/anti-spyware to your same computer, you can install Malwarebytes in case the MSE missed to detected some virus. Malwarebytes works well and does not conflict with other anti-virus.

Running both at the same time will cause issues in the long run. MSE provides better protection then the Free AVG version. The paid AVG version in my opinion is better then the MSE.

No, it’s not okay to run more than one antivirus program at the same time.Doing this will more than likely slow your system down and it will truly affect your computer’s performance.
