Packet - A packet is data broken down into chunks and transmitted over a network. A packet has a header containing information about the source and destination. Packets are reassembled at their destination to form the complete file. Page File - A page file is a portion of the HDD that stores files that do not fit in active memory. This can also be referred to as a swap file. Paint - A default image editor included in the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Parity Bit - A parity bit is an extra bit used for error checking in memory. Partition - A partition is a portion of hard disk space that acts as its own, physically seperate unit--even though it's actually part of one drive. A HDD may have numerous partitions. PCMCIA - An expansion card for laptops and other portable computers. Peer-to-Peer - or P2P - Peer-to-peer refers to two of more computers that communicate at the same network level and share files with each other.
