RAID - RAID in an acronym for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. There are several levels of RAID, but the general purpose is to create "redundancy" so if a drive fails in the array, a new drive can be swapped in without loss of data. RAM - RAM is an acronym for Ramdon Access Memory. This volitile memory does not store data, rater it temporarily holds data that can be read and written to whenever the Operating System requires. RAM Disk - A RAM DISK is a simulated hard drive within RAM. Raster Image - A display image that forms patterns of colored pixels in a rectangular array. README - A README file is a file that contains specific instructions for a user to install or use a program. These are normal plain text files. Real Time Clock - the RTC is a hardware part of the motherboard that keeps the time when the system is off. This is controlled bya separate battery. Reformat - Reformatting is the act of preparing the hard drive for reuse or reinstall of an Operating System or to serve as a storage device. Registry - The centralized database in Windows that holds vital information to configure the system for users, software and hardware and applications.
