Turn Internet Explorer 7 Phishing Filter On
Phishing is a form of online social hacking that criminals use to obtain username and passwords for bank accounts, credit card accounts and other websites that require a login. It is used normally used in emails, but malicious websites can also employ this tactic to unsuspecting visitors. They accomplish this by adding links to emails or websites that redirect a victim to a site that appears to be legitimate. When the user logs in, they are actually giving the hackers their usernames and passwords.
The phishing filter is a valuable tool in IE7 and is turned on by default. But if it gets turned off, you can turn it back on by opening IE and selecting Phishing Filter. You will also see options to report a website that is using phishing schemes or you can opt to check a website you're not sure about. In this case, the website address is send to Microsoft and compared to sites in its database. But even if it doesn't appear in the database, doesn't mean its safe.
