Restoring Outlook Express

How to Never Lose your OE Files Again
Outlook Express is a mail client provided with the Microsoft Windows Operating System.  Although easy to use, backing up and restoring can sometimes be confusing.

We like and highly recommend the BackUp Email program.  It quickly and easily saves your Address Book, Contacts and Mail for quick restoration following a catastrophic system failure.

You can also backup manually by following the instructions below.  Whether you use a software solution or if you do it the long way, backing up you Email files on a regular basis can save you a lot of heartache in the future.

Back up and Restore Outlook Express Files

The easiest way to backup your  OE files is to locate the path to your .dbx files.  This is done by opening Outlook Express and going to Tools | Options | Maintenance and on the Store Folder button, highlight the path and press CTRL + C to copy it.  In Internet Explorer address bar, highlight what's currently there and press CTRL + V to paste the path and press enter.  You will now see several files with .dbx extensions.  You can copy this files to make a backup.  Just reverse the process to restore these files.

Back up and Restore The Address Book

You can also make a quick backup of the address book.  Open Outlook Express. In File Menu click Export and then Address Book.  Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then Export.  Click the Browse button and select where you want to save your address book.  Next, type in a name for your Address Book and click 'Save'
Click Next and check the boxes to select the fields you want to export.  Click Finish to complete the backup.

To restore this data, go back to the file menu and click Import, then Other Address Book.  You can browse to the address book you saved above to restore the data.
