Creating Secure Passwords

Creating a secure password is essential, especially in today's world of wireless Internet access and home networking.  But what is a secure password?  For starters, you do not want to use anything that is in the dictionary, or any consecutive numbers or letters.  These can be broken within seconds by a knowledgeable hacker or password cracking program.

A secure password should be alphanumeric with a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.  No repeating characters or spaces. This password should also be at lease six or eight characters long.

If you want to create super insane passwords, check out Steve Gibson's security site at Gibson Research Corporation.  You can generate a long, random password here:  https://www.grc.com/pass

Remember to change your password, and if you have to write it down, keep it in a safe location, where nobody will know what it means if they stumble across it  day.  If you have to write your password down, consider having a special three or four digits in front that you exclude when typing it it.  This way, anyone who tries to use this password will type in those characters and, of course, be denied access.
