Day 7
Clean Your Registry
Your Windows Operating system has a registry that it uses to store settings and options for users, software and hardware. Whenever you make hardware changes or add and remove software, changes are made to the Windows registry to reflect that. Unfortunately, the more you use Windows and the more changes you make, the registry can become cluttered with duplicate entries and fragmented data. A registry cleaner is a great way to quickly fix these problems and can actually improve the speed of your PC.
Backup your registry before you proceed. A bad registry can mean a reinstall of Windows if things go wrong, so make sure the cleaner you use provides a backup, or manually make a backup of the Windows registry before you make any changes. Backups can be restored easily, if necessary. To make a backup of the registry in Windows XP just go to Start, then run and type regedit. Under the file menu you will see Export. Export the registry to a location you can find--like your Desktop, then maybe burn the file to a CD for safe keeping. With that said, most registry cleaners will automatically make a backup before they begin.
What registry cleaner are we using? Staff members at PCTechBytes have been using Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 1.0. The Eusing registry cleaner does a great job of finding errors and fixing them with a single click. Plus it's free. But there are a lot of great programs out there that provide free registry cleaning.
