Spyware Galore

 The thing I would like to discuss is those anti-spyware programs. I am not a very rich person, so I rely on free tools. The tools I use are:

              ·         Ad-Aware SE 1.05

This free tool is a great program, and I rate it an 8 out of 10. The only problems I have found with the program are its less-than-average interface, and the full system scan is a very long process.

·         Spybot Search & Destroy

This program is average, 6 out of 10. It has a very good scan speed, and it's also fairly large library, and catches most average spyware and adware.  However, it doesn't have a very good catch/kill rate, or an easy-to-use GUI. Also, this program does not offer a choice of full versus smart system scan. Finally, this program does require a reboot to kill many programs, and instead of remembering the programs to kill, SSD rescans the entire system.

·         Windows Anti-Spyware Beta

This is a great program from Giant software, bought and repackaged by Microsoft. I rate it a 9 out of ten, and it only loses points because of the slow update speed even on my 4 Megabit cable internet. It has a great GUI, an amazing scan speed, eight minutes on my test drive,

·         AVG Anti-Virus

I love this program, it's free, and it does catch most of my viruses, and it will eliminate most of your average viruses. If you have a virus problem, get AVG.
