Data to Go
With the barrier of data storage virtually broken, the question is no longer will I backup my data, but how will I backup?  Storage devices have become so inexpensive that there is no longer an excuse not to save your files for recovery.  Well, except for laziness, that is.

PCTechBytes has listed some of our favorite methods of taking your data with you, or just backing it up for archival purposes.  While we will not cover every method for storing data, we certainly have listed the devices that are reliable, affordable and easy to use.

This is one of our favorite devices.  The SimpleTech Office Server is a fast and easy way to add a file and print server to your existing network. SimpleTech's NASfinder wizard makes it nearly automatic to setup.  This stand-alone box does it all.  You no longer need to dedicate the space and cost of a traditional server.  This tiny box does it all.

Western Digital has always been a favorite hard drive of PCTechBytes.  They're reliable and generally problem-free for many years.  This particular model is an external USB 2.0 device and is virtually plug-and-go.  If you need space, this 7200 rpm external hard drive is our recommendation.

This WD Internal Hard Drive is fast with it's 8MB Cache.  It's also a whopping 200 GBs of storage.  This device is great for storing movies, music and photos internally on your PC.

We cannot forget the DVD media.  DVDs are the ultimate in lightweight storage.  At 4.7GB per disk, DVD is a fast and easy way to transfer data from one location to another.  Home movies, photos, and other data can be burned at 16x with this external Sony USB 2.0 burner (Also Firewire compatible).  It comes bundled with the popular Nero DVD burner software that makes buring music, photos and movies a snap.  Also burns CDs at 48x.

No matter which device you use to backup, make sure it fits your budget, space and technical experiences requirement.  We recommend the NAS device above for both experienced and Non-experienced users.  The Internal WD HDD will require opening the case and some knowledge of partitioning and formatting a disk.  It will ship with disks that help you perform those tasks.  Lastly, the flash drive should be in everyone's briefcase or glove compartment for fast and unexpected data transfers.
