Installing and Updating Printer Drivers

In this tutorial we will show you how to install and update printer drivers in Windows XP.  You will either need a driver disk from the manufacturer or you will need to download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.  We recommend the second option as manufacturers often have the latest drivers available for download.  Be sure to download this file to the Desktop for easy access.

Most new printers are USB and have driver support built into Windows XP.  But occasionally you may need to install or update a driver for your printer.  To begin, you must be logged in as Admin.

1.      Go to Start, then Printers and Faxes.

2.      Next, right-click the printer you want to change drivers for, then select Properties.

3.      Click the Advanced tab, then the New Driver button.  The Add Printer Driver Wizard will pop up and show you a list of available drivers.  You will need to either select your printer driver from those listed, or select the Have Disk option.  You will either need an updated driver disk, or you will have to browse to the driver you downloaded from the manufacturer’s website as we recommended above.
