System Restore in XP System Restore is a Utility in Windows that allows you to revert system settings to a previous restore point safely, without losing important data like recent work, photos or music. System Restore creates restore points automatically, but you can manually add a restore porint before installing new hardware or software using the System Restore utility. To view your current restore points, navigate to START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS and click on SYSTEM RESTORE. To see your Restore Points, click Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time. The dates in bold are restore points.
View Current Restore SettingsYou can turn restore on and off whenever you like. Some viruses will use restore points to reinstall themselves on your computer following a virus scan, so before you do a scan, be sure to turn off System Restore. To view your current settings, right-click MY COMPUTER, then selet PROPERTIES. Under the System Restore tab, you will have the option to turn off the restore feature on any hard drives you have installed on the system. If you remove it on the C: drive, you will remove it on ALL drives.
Try System Restore FirstA lot of problems can be quickly resolved using the restore feature, and we recommend users try this before turing their systems in for repair. So make it a habit to create restore points when your system is acting normally. Short of a hardware failure, you should be able to keep your computer running smooth for a long time.
