Setup Windows 7 Homegroups

Windows 7 has a new networking feature called Homegroups, which allows you to easily setup computers in your network so they can share various types of files back and forth. Doing this type of thing in previous versions was non-trivial. But it can be accomplished with a few clicks of the mouse. Share Documents, pictures, music and other data by selecting those options during the initial setup.

The caveat is all of the PCs that participate must be running Windows 7. If you want to share files with other Operating Systems, you will need to setup network shares on those folders or use a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device.

To begin, open My Computer and click the Homegroups link located on the left side. You will select the types of files you want to share, then Windows will issue the homegroup a password. This password will need to be inputted on the other machines, so be sure to write it down. Once done, you will be able to share files over the network.

I PURCHASED A HP COMPUTER ON APRIL 4,2008 THAT HAS THE VISTA
HOME ADDITION. IT DOES NOT HAVE THE FEATURES OF WINDOWS 2000 OR 2003.
NOW THAT THE PROBLEM WITH VISTA CAN BE CORRECTED WITH WINDOWS 2007 WILL THIS PROGRAM BE GIVEN TO US THAT HAS THE VISTA COMPUTERS?

No, you will need to purchase an upgrade. People who bought a computer within the past 60 days or so are eligible for the free upgrade.
