Costs to upgrade?

Recommended Posts

I have a Windows 98 laptop with burnable drive.. I don't even know the specs except that it's high end. Anyway, I'm ordering internet & would like to make use of this. Is it worth upgrading it's modem & such or should I just trash it??

If you're getting high-speed Internet, you might be able to make use of the laptop if it has a USB port. I doubt the laptop has a network adapter built-in.

If you just want to use it for surfing the web and checking email, then it should do you just fine. Just make sure you have an antivirus that's up to date. Windows 98 hasn't been actively supported for a while and it might have security holes.

We plan on doing just that, check e-mail & mildly surf the web. Just didn't know if we needed to get a new modem or anything like that. Thanks so much for you quick reply, Dave! Have a great day!!!

How are you connecting to the Internet? Cable, DSL or and ISP dialup service like AOL? This will determine what you need for your laptop.

Hi Dave,

I will be connecting by DSL via Qwest. Hopefully there won't be too many complications!

Thanks again!

Linda
