If it is a new notebook purchased within the last 30 days, return it to the merchant you purchased it from for an exchange.  If it is older than 30 days but less than a year you should be eligible for warranty work.  You can send it back to the manufacturer and will receive free repair unless this was a water or fall damaged item.

Questions to answer:

When you plug in the AC adapter, are there any LEDs that light up to indicate charging?

Is there any battery indicator to show how much charge the battery has in it?

Will it POST?  Can you get into the BIOS?

Things you can try at home to fix it.

Remove the AC adapter and battery and hold down the power button for 1 minute.  Then reconnect only the AC adapter and see if it powers up.

If not, remove all sticks of RAM and reinstall only 1 stick in the primary slot.  Try to power on with just the AC adapter.
