You can run the BIST (Built in Self Test) by holding down the D key when powering on the laptop. Continue to hold the D key only and you should see the screen power on and turn colors. This will confirm the LCD panel itself is good. Since it is not working on an external monitor, I suspect there is an issue with the graphics card or motherboard.

Since it was shipped to you as an eBay purchase, I would remove the RAM and reconnected it.  It may have had a rough ride to you and knocked some stuff loose.  If you cant get it working soon, I would return it to the sender and get a refund or a different laptop that works.

So we proved the laptop screen itself is not the issue, as expected, because it wasn't outputting to an external display either. As Bob suggested, try re-seating the RAM and f that doesn't fix it, there is something wrong with the motherboard and you should return it.
